From the Commander

Maj Jeff Hines PortrailOn December 1st, 1941, the Director of the U.S. Department of Civilian Defense signed Order No. 9 establishing the Civil Air Patrol. Mr. LaGuardia’s order stated, “I have caused to be created and organized a branch of the Office of volunteers for the purpose of enlisting and training personnel to aid in the national defense of the United States, designated as the Civil Air Patrol”. Now, more than eighty years later, we, as members of the Civil Air Patrol, are still upholding the principles, traditions, and missions of which this historic organization was founded.

Civil Air Patrol is historically known for its missions in the Gulf of Mexico and on the Eastern Seaboard chasing and sinking German submarines patrolling our coastlines. CAP members now focus on the three core missions: emergency services, aerospace education, and cadet programs. Over time our missions have changed, but our dedication to performing our service and our commitment to our community has always remained strong.

The Maj Kevin A Adams Memorial Composite Squadron is one of the newest squadrons in Michigan and our main focus is continuing the legacy of those who came before us. Every time one of our officers or cadets attends a squadron meeting, travels to a National Cadet Special Activity, participates in a SAR/DR exercise, or volunteers to work a state or federal response mission, they add to CAP’s rich history, while at the same time develop our own traditions within the unit.

Our members’ service to the cause and dedication to the mission are something to be proud of. I am honored to stand beside each and every one of them and call them all friends. It is my honor to serve the members of GLR-MI-655 and I thank each and every one of them for upholding our core values, for volunteering when our state and country call upon us, and for continuing the traditions of the Civil Air Patrol.

Semper Vigilans,

Maj Jeff Hines, CAP
Maj Kevin A Adams Memorial Composite Squadron Commander
